Introduction

I am Lara Laraby, a multidisciplinary designer and educator with a B.A. in Graphic Design from San Diego State University, Class of 2020. My work varies across graphic design projects such as branding and packaging, while also blending illustration and storytelling, including poem writing, to create narrative driven visual work. My academic training spans branding and corporate identity, publication and book design, motion graphics, environmental and exhibition design, web and app interface development, broadcast graphics, and typeface design. This background provides a strong foundation in both conceptual design thinking and technical execution across print and digital platforms.

As a Graphic Design Instructor at Cuyamaca College, I integrate this diverse skill set into my teaching practice, mentoring students in visual communication, layout, design software, and identity driven storytelling. I participated as a faculty exhibitor in 2023 at the Hyde Art Gallery at Grossmont College, Cuyamaca’s sister college. In 2025, I support and guide my students in exhibiting their work at the Cuyamaca College Art Gallery, helping them gain firsthand experience in presenting their work in a professional exhibition setting.

Outside academia, I work independently as a freelance designer and artist and manage an online shop where I share and sell my creative work. I have created original illustration based collections and presented my work at events such as the 2024 KPLAY Fest Expo in Orange County, where I designed and showcased my artwork in a cohesive, audience focused display. Blending design education with real world creative practice, I am passionate about shaping visual narratives that connect deeply with people.
